EDUCATION vs. INDOCTRINATION - PROP. 8

To educate means: 1. to provide schooling, 2. to develop mentally or morally, esp. by instruction. A synonym is “to teach.” Our Founding Fathers recognized the importance of education to preserve the democratic nature of our country.

To indoctrinate means: 1. to instruct, especially in fundamentals or rudiments: Teach, 2. to imbue with a usually partisan or sectarian opinion, point of view, or principle. Nazi Germany indoctrinated its people to further the cause (or curse) of Nazism through militarism, hatred of the “other,” and strict conformity to the dictates of its Dictator, Adolph Hitler.

In May of 2008, the California Supreme Court struck down a 2000 law that restricted same sex couples from marriage denying to them rights under the equal protection clause of the California Constitution that is similar to the equal protection clause in the United States Constitution.

CALIFORNIA CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE 1 DECLARATION OF RIGHTS

SECTION 1. All people are by nature free and independent and have
inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and
liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and pursuing
and obtaining safety, happiness, and privacy.

Proposition 8 amends the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry within the state. It defines marriage as only between one man and one
woman.

Proposition 8 would deny constitutional rights and protections to homosexuals. The selling point of those who propose and sanction this proposition is that their children may be educated to the fact that homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals.

And for the citizens of our state who support the proposition in the wildly uneducated but strongly indoctrinated belief that homosexuality can be taught to their children in school and by use of books about gay marriage, they believe passing such an amendment will protect their children from the “evils” of education and provide them rather with the benefits of indoctrination to prejudice and intolerance, regardless of the facts of life.

Also, in the sad and harmful belief that they are acting morally by supporting Proposition 8, they are sadly harming a significant number of people in the State of California by their immoral act.

Vote NO on proposition 8!
